Lotao Pressemeldung: Jackpot für Veganer

Lotao press release: Jackpot for vegans

Berlin, February 12, 2020. Simply put the lid on, add water and enjoy – with the Jackpot, Lotao, a provider of organic Asian delicatessen specialties, is serving the first jackfruit convenience dish from a cup at this year's BIOFACH. With this product innovation, the company is responding to the “Fast Good” trend, the combination of fast but healthy cuisine.

The convenience product revolution continues

After the company has already impressed on the German market with the Jackfruit Burger - which was awarded a “very good” rating by Öko-Test last year - the next innovation from Lotao is now coming: The Jackpot. The vegan 5-minute cup in organic quality is the ideal comfort food for in between meals and impresses as a quick and healthy meal that relies entirely on natural and excellent taste. Under the own brand “Lotao Green”, the jackpot will be available from May 2020 for 2.49 (RRP) in well-stocked organic and grocery stores or via the Lotao online shop.

Taste gain in two varieties

Inspired by culinary classics, the Jackpot is currently available in two flavors : Jackpot Bolognese and Jackpot Curry .
The Jackpot Bolognese combines tradition and product innovation in one cup. Classic Spirelli pasta is coated in creamy tomato sauce. What's special: The minced meat in Bolognese is by no means animal-based. The exotic meat alternative is made from jackfruit and pea protein.

The vegan minced meat was developed and tested in collaboration with a research group from Neubrandenburg University and the Institute for Grain Research. It is allergen-free, has a consistency that is almost indistinguishable from conventional minced meat and is ready to eat within 2 to 3 minutes.
Thanks to characteristic Indian spices such as turmeric, cumin, coriander, etc., the Jackpot Curry is a true taste experience that offers a wholesome, vegan convenience meal thanks to a creamy curry sauce with tender jackfruit pieces on light rice noodles.
In order to avoid preservatives, the jackfruit flesh contained in Jackpot Curry is freeze-dried immediately after harvesting - a process that is successfully used thanks to the Lotao project “Sustainable JF in India”. The development project supports organic jackfruit farmers to improve the quality of the fruit harvested locally and to professionalize their production so that a sustainable, fair and lucrative sales market can develop. Freeze drying has already significantly increased the added value for jackfruit farmers in the region.

Naturally sustainable

Foodies who value not only their own health but also the environment can also breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to packaging: the snack pots are sustainably manufactured and 100% biodegradable.
“We invested over a year in development work to create the Jackpot dishes because it was important to us to offer a high-quality product with carefully selected ingredients,” says Stefan Fak, Managing Director at LPP Lotao Pack- und Produktions GmbH . “A vegan 5-minute cup that combines traditional dishes with the jackfruit trend and places emphasis on the sustainability of the packaging is an absolute novelty on the market. Lotao thus continues to live up to its claim as an innovation leader in the area of Asian delicacies.”
